A Screen Studio alternative with a one-time price
Screen Studio sets a high bar for polished Mac screen recordings. It no longer sells one-time licenses to new customers, so here is how DemoCut and other Mac recorders compare, including where they fall short.

The short answer
Screen Studio’s own FAQ says one-time licenses are no longer available for new purchases. New customers pay $9 a month billed yearly or $29 a month billed monthly. DemoCut is a native Mac screen recorder with auto zoom, a webcam overlay, keystroke overlays and 9:16 vertical export, and its planned launch price is $29 USD once, including all future versions, on three personally owned Macs.
Be clear about one thing before reading further: DemoCut is in preview. You cannot download or buy it yet. The $29 price is our planned launch offer, and the seven-day trial opens with the public release. Screen Studio is a mature, shipping product with features DemoCut does not have, and this page lists them.

Where Screen Studio is ahead
- It is available today, with a proven track record. DemoCut is still finishing release testing.
- Captions and share links are built in. DemoCut exports files only, so you add captions and host the video yourself.
- Broader compatibility. It runs on macOS 13.1 or later, including some Intel Macs. DemoCut requires macOS 15.
- More camera layouts, including background removal, and direct iPhone and iPad recording over USB.
- Audio and extras such as noise reduction, background music and shared projects.
Where DemoCut is different
- One payment instead of a subscription. The planned $29 license costs less than three months of Screen Studio’s yearly plan, and it keeps receiving new versions.
- Three personally owned Macs on one license, with no renewal date to track.
- HEVC and ProRes export alongside H.264 and GIF, for handing a recording to another editor. Screen Studio’s site lists 4K 60 fps and GIF export.
- A simpler, local-only scope. No share links or cloud storage to manage: you record, edit and export a file. Turning phone footage into a Reel is covered in our vertical video guide.
